Kinda hard not to.
Angry at growing older
Angry at not being able to eat anything in sight without getting fat
Angry at allergies
Angry at finances
Angry at people who promise one thing and deliver another
Angry at sleeping alone
Angry at my dog for destroying his plastic pool
And angry at Walmart for not carrying them anymore because they are “seasonal”
Now that that’s off my chest…
I wrote Desire when I was in my early 20s for a girl who had spent most of her life trying to make it as a musician without much visible (financial) success. She was so hurt and frustrated that when I prayed for her, I felt nothing but hopelessness. And fatigue. She was exhausted from a lifetime of keeping her chin up.
I knew the Lord loved her and she Him, and that sometime in her life He would fulfill her dreams. But how do you convey that to another person convincingly? I ended up writing what I felt God wanted me to say to her in a song. She eventually was in not one but two of the most successful Contemporary Christian Music bands of the 80’s and 90’s.
And my song had several thousand downloads from internet sales.
Desire (By Paisley Yankolovich)
Don’t go to sleep angry
Don’t try to dream while you’re afraid
I sure love you
The rest of the world won’t listen
As you tell me just how you fell
I’ve been there too
And the passion that you’re seeking
Yes, the passion that you’re seeking is real
Jesus gave you your Desire
Now he plans to fulfill it
Jesus started your hearts fire
He knows He has
He won’t kill it
You hands they long to touch
All that means so much to you
Seems so out of reach
But there’s a ship that’s coming in
And it’s got on it your name
It’s all for you
And I know that it’s gonna
Yeah, it’s gonna withstand the rain
Jesus gave you your Desire
Now he plans to fulfill it
Jesus started your hearts fire
He knows He has
He won’t kill it
And I promise that tomorrow
That tomorrow won’t be the same…
Jesus gave you your Desire
Now he plans to fulfill it
Jesus started your hearts fire
He knows He has
He won’t kill it
